About This Spot

Stepping into Balkan Grill in the heart of Narvarte Poniente feels like uncovering a small, heartfelt corner of the Balkans nestled within the vibrant streets of Ciudad de México. The atmosphere is quietly warm and unpretentious, a space where the rhythm slows down just enough for you to appreciate the company, the food, and the stories that unfold around the table.

The pace here is gentle — not hurried — creating room for connection, whether it’s with friends sharing a plate or with the owner who clearly infuses each dish with deep care and tradition. This is a place where the grill sizzles steadily, sending out aromas that invite curiosity and comfort, drawing you in to experience flavors that linger in memory without overwhelming.

Dining at Balkan Grill feels like being welcomed into a family gathering. The menu is an exploration of grilled meats and hearty, Eastern European-inspired fare made approachable for the local palate, but each bite reveals layers of authenticity and affection. Delicate touches, like a homemade Rakija or the subtle sweetness of a layered Medovnik dessert, show the thoughtful attention behind every detail.

The space itself encourages lingering — whether you’re there to savor the robust smokiness of a charcoal-grilled hamburger or to enjoy lighter touches like fresh salads and vegetarian options that complement the richness of the meat dishes. It’s also a spot that embraces community, welcoming groups, families, and even four-legged companions with a gentle openness not always found in the city.

Balkan Grill feels like a quiet discovery, a place where the genuine warmth of its people elevates the traditional flavors, turning a simple meal into something quietly memorable. It’s less about spectacle and more about the kind of honest hospitality and food that invites you to return, not just for what’s on the plate but for the moments that unfold while you’re there.

Saw this spot when I was on the bus and I had to check it out. Tried the paprika dish and also a meat dish. The charcuterie plate was amazing. Service was good. I chatted with the owner and he seems to really care about the quality of the food that’s served. Wasn’t getting bugged constantly but also not forgotten. I only wish I’d asked for a little more salt. I’d come by and try some more stuff since it’s in a nice safe area.

Mega experience! The salad (Sopska) as well as the food (Cevapi) were freshly prepared and mega delicious! To top it off, there was a homemade Rakija. Absolutely recommended, best food in Mexico so far.

Such an amazing place. The owner runs it with so much love for his food. We shared some dishes: Serbian soup, Greek salad, pasta with Gorgonzola and Medovnik dessert. Thank you D. for the amazing food, I will be back for sure.

Had the smoked bacon burger; where it is ground and used in patty construction as well as filling it with cheese. Tried to be healthier and went with a side salad rather than fries, a nice option. Salad was good. Burger was ok; but think I'd prefer my bacon separate. Wasn't the biggest fan of this particular burger consistency and wonder about some others; although if I head back down there again I am more likely to try one of the Balkan specialty dishes.

INCREDIBLE food. We ordered the cuban salad and kufteta and other various meats as well as rice pudding dessert, and it was beyond delicious. My family is very familiar with Balkan/greek/turkish food and this was basically better than homemade. Also puppy friendly. Service was slightly difficult due to language barrier and server not knowing gluten free items on menu (gluten allergy). But, food is amazing if you know what to order!! (And really good Turkish music) :)

A week ago, my friends and I visited Mexico City, and one of our friends brought along a book called Eater Guide to Mexico City. While browsing through it, we discovered a Serbian restaurant called Balkan Grill and decided to check it out—especially since two of us in the group were born and raised in the Balkans and speak Serbian. As soon as we stepped out of the Uber, we were greeted by the sound of Serbian music in the air, instantly waking up a sense of nostalgia in me. Claudia, the owner (of Mexican origin), welcomed us in Serbian and even offered us Rakija, a homemade Serbian plum brandy. She was incredibly knowledgeable about Serbian culture and cuisine, warm, and genuinely welcoming. Claudia made excellent food recommendations, including homemade Ajvar, gibanica, mesni uštipci, ribs, a cold platter, and meat prepared by a local Slovenian chef. The Turkish coffee was outstanding—an absolute delight for a coffee fanatic like me—and she even shared her secret recipe behind the incredible flavor. The desserts were equally impressive, with the Honey Cake being a standout. The restaurant exceeded all my expectations. It offers a true Balkan cultural experience far from the Balkans, and the menu beautifully fuses flavors from different Balkan countries. If you ever get the chance to visit, do not miss it—you won’t regret it!
